Porto

Portugal's Soulful City

Porto Context

Gritty, funky, fun.
Those are just a couple of words you could use to describe Portugal's second city. Blessed with a surprising amount of history, its location at the mouth of the Douro River has helped put one of the world's great wines on the map. After all, port wine gets it name not from the valley it comes from (the Douro Valley) but the city where merchants picked it up while embarking on their travels around the world - Porto!
With beautiful architecture, an emerging foodie culture, and the feeling of a city coming to grips with its new found status as an up and coming place to visit, the soul of Porto is what makes this place so fun to explore. Be sure to bring some sturdy walking shoes for the serious hills, as well as your sense of adventure - Porto is now on the travel map, but you won't feel like a member of the horde just yet. Better get that before that feeling disappears.
