Hautvillers
HAUTVILLERS
Context

Perched above the city of Épernay, and right smack in the middle of the Champagne region's best grape growing fields lies the charming villiage of Hautvillers. This quaint town is considered the birthplace of champagne, as resident monk Dom Perignon discovered the process that takes ordinary wine and makes it into the bubbly concotion we all love today. Visiting his final resting place in the humble Abbey Saint-Pierre d'Hautvillers is the perfect way to pay respects to the man without whom some of life's greatest moments would be infinitely less celebratory.
Hautvillers is also home to several champagne houses, and we only barely scratched the surface in our short visit. Regardless of how much time you have to visit the Champagne region, stopping by this picturesque little village is a must-do. Many of the homes and businesses are decorated with unique forged iron signs hanging above their doors, and the lookouts from Hautvillers' vantage point provides stunning views of the surrounding Vallée de la Marne and the vineyards below.
Let us show you some of our experiences in this quaint little village, and feel free to share your own, as we look forward to future visits in the years to come!
